Galatians 6:2 vs. Galatians 6:5

Posted by faithfirstmedia on July 3, 2009 at 4:48 PM

The following is an excerpt from the book Does the Bible Have Contradictions? by Matthew Elton, copyright 2009 Matthew Elton.

Question:

Are we to bear one another's burdens (Galatians 6:2), or are we to bear only our own burdens (Galatians 6:5)?

Answer:

Both, actually. Galatians 6:5 tells us to bear our own burdens, but it does not tell us to bear only our own burdens. Galatians 6:2 tells us to bear one another’s burdens. So we are to bear our own burdens, and one another’s burdens.
